NEA Mission Statement
NEA is an Episcopal and lay initiative that emerged from the deliberations of the Special Assembly of the Synod of American Bishops held in 1997. From its inception this endeavor has enjoyed the Apostolic Blessing of Pope John Paul II. Under the patronage of Our Lady of Guadalupe, NEA is a Pan American organization which seeks to use and help coordinate media communications to bring about the New Evangelization called for by Pope John Paul II in the Apostolic Exhortation Ecclesia in America. NEA seeks to maximize the use of communications in the Church’s work of Evangelization by:
- Inspiring new communication initiatives of benefit to the Church, especially those involved in mass media and new technologies.
- Serving as a liaison and resource center for Catholic communication organizations throughout the Americas.
- Serving as a liaison and resource to the particular Churches (Dioceses) in developing and sustaining media outlets and resources, including assisting with the training and education for those within the Church working in the field of communications.
- Helping to coordinate both fund raising activities and training in fund raising for Catholic communication entities.
- Providing networking opportunities for Catholic communicators through meetings, publications, conferences and other activities.
- Working with governmental entities, the business community and other non-Catholic communication organizations on issues pertinent to the work of NEA and the Catholic community it serves.
